Sister-Corps June 2024 Newsletter – Volunteer Hours, Projects, Training, and Disaster Relief
The June 2024 Sister-Corps newsletter highlights the importance of volunteer time, completed projects, upcoming opportunities, blood donation initiatives, disaster relief efforts, and ongoing carpentry training programs across the country.
Why Volunteer Time Matters
Volunteer hours are a critical part of Sister-Corps’ mission. The U.S. government assigns a value to volunteer labor across the nation, and in 2024, Sister-Corps labor in light carpentry, debris removal, environmental work, and community service is valued at $33.49 per hour.
As of this update, Sister-Corps volunteers have donated 6,312 hours, representing a value of $211,398. With several projects still ahead, the organization is working toward a goal of reaching 10,000 hours in 2024.
Over the past 7.5 years, Sister-Corps has contributed 9,146 volunteer hours, valued at $714,669. These hours demonstrate the real-world impact of skilled volunteer work in communities across the country.
Completed Projects 2024
- March – Mississippi: 38 volunteers, $123,243 value, 3 work sites
- April – Oklahoma: 30 volunteers, $88,155 value, 7 work sites
Upcoming Project – Spokane, Washington
Wildfires in the Spokane area devastated more than 21,000 acres, leaving many families without permanent housing. Sister-Corps is stepping in to support recovery efforts by helping families return to stable homes.
This project will also include a hands-on carpentry and drywall training class, giving volunteers the opportunity to build practical skills while supporting disaster recovery efforts.

Save a Life – Blood Donation Initiative
Sister-Corps encourages volunteers and supporters to participate in blood donation efforts. Blood donations help save lives and provide critical support to communities in need.
The goal is 500 donations, which equates to roughly eight donations per day. Participants are encouraged to schedule a donation between July 1 and August 31 and help spread awareness.
Sister-Corps has partnered with Sisters on the Fly to expand the reach of this initiative and increase participation nationwide.

South San Diego Flood Relief – November 2024
Over 1,000 residents were impacted by severe flooding in Southern San Diego on January 22, 2024. Sister-Corps volunteers will have the opportunity to assist in recovery efforts and help families rebuild their homes.

Carpentry Training Program
Sister-Corps continues to expand its carpentry training program to equip volunteers with the skills needed for light construction and disaster recovery work. Training includes insulation, drywall, painting, flooring, and repair work needed after natural disasters.
The program is supported by experienced builders and instructors, providing hands-on learning opportunities that allow volunteers to directly impact communities in need.
Additional classes are being planned across the country, including projects that combine training with active disaster recovery efforts.
Sister-Corps Advisory Board
The Sister-Corps Advisory Board includes members from across the country who support the organization’s mission through leadership, expertise, and community engagement.
Members represent a wide range of industries and locations, contributing to the continued growth and success of Sister-Corps initiatives nationwide.
