There are many ways to support Sister-Corps, and you may have questions about which giving option is right for you. We’ve answered some common questions below to help you explore your options and see how your generosity supports families and communities recovering from disasters.
Can I donate stock to Sister-Corps?
Yes! Sister-Corps accepts donations of appreciated stock through our partner, DonateStock. Giving stock may allow you to avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation while potentially qualifying for a charitable deduction. It’s a convenient way to support disaster recovery while making the most of your gift.
Can I give through my Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?
Yes! If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, you can recommend a grant to Sister-Corps directly from your fund. We’ve partnered with GivingIQ to make the process easy. Your grant helps provide the materials, tools, and supplies our volunteers need for disaster recovery projects.
Can I make a donation directly from my IRA?
Yes! If you’re age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Sister-Corps.
A QCD may satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD), if applicable, without including the eligible distribution in your taxable income.
Contact your IRA custodian for instructions. You can also contact Sister-Corps if you need information to complete your gift.
Can I donate cryptocurrency to Sister-Corps?
Yes! Sister-Corps accepts cryptocurrency donations through our giving partner, GivingIQ. Your gift helps provide the materials, tools, and supplies our volunteers need to help families and communities recover from disasters.
Can I donate a vehicle to Sister-Corps?
Yes! You can donate a car, truck, RV, boat, or other eligible vehicle to Sister-Corps through our vehicle donation partner, CARS (Careasy). They handle the donation process, making it an easy way to support our disaster recovery work.
Can I include Sister-Corps in my will or estate plans?
Yes! Including Sister-Corps in your will or estate plans is a meaningful way to help families and communities recover from disasters for years to come. You can designate a specific amount or a percentage of your estate. We recommend discussing your wishes with your attorney or estate planning advisor.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes! Sister-Corps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our federal tax identification number (EIN) is 83-4688566. Please consult your tax advisor about deductions that may apply to your gift.
How does Sister-Corps use my donation?
Your donation helps purchase building materials, tools, equipment, and supplies needed for Sister-Corps projects. Because Sister-Corps is an all-volunteer organization and our volunteers pay their own travel and lodging expenses, the majority of donated funds go directly toward our recovery work, with a portion supporting essential operating expenses. Your generosity helps families and communities rebuild long after a disaster.
