Volunteer

Project needs vary by location and circumstances. Once a response effort is planned, we assess the work required and align volunteer skills accordingly. Activities may include debris removal, drywall removal, insulation installation, painting, or flooring. No prior experience is required—team leaders provide training and guidance. Volunteers should expect physically demanding work and a rewarding experience.

Yes. Volunteer safety is our top priority. We do not engage in work that is unsafe or unhealthy, including electrical, plumbing, roofing, or mold remediation, which require specialized training and licensing.

Volunteers will receive a project-specific list of required personal safety equipment. Typically, this includes an OSHA-compliant hard hat, steel or composite-toe footwear, and appropriate eye and hearing protection. Some equipment may be provided onsite. Personal tools are optional and brought at the volunteer’s own risk.

Each project is unique. Days typically begin with breakfast and a mandatory safety briefing, followed by travel to the work site. Work schedules vary based on project needs, with time allotted for meals and rest. Volunteers are encouraged to prioritize both physical and emotional well-being throughout the project.

Sister-Corps is a volunteer-led organization with no paid staff. Volunteers are responsible for travel, lodging, and personal expenses unless individually sponsored.

Volunteers are encouraged to consult a medical professional before participating. While no specific vaccinations are required, trained medical volunteers are available onsite to address minor injuries and health concerns.
